To have a successful early morning exercise routine, preparation always starts the previous night. Therefore, here are 8 tips for getting out of bed early without a struggle and going running.
- Unplug 2 Hours Before Bed
At night, computers and smartphones emit a blue light that disrupts our sleep patterns by blocking melatonin, a hormone that our brains produce at night to help us sleep well.
Therefore, unplugging from technology at least one hour before bed can help you sleep soundly and wake up early refreshed and excited to work out.
2. Set Your Running Gear Next to Your Bed
Knowing you have your running clothes and shoes laid out is a step closer to ticking off your day’s workout as complete. If you do this, have a calendar on a wall for ticking off every workout you complete, then you know how fulfilling and rewarding that tick is.
If you don’t, make a calendar and start. I promise it’s the best consistency hack.
As I was saying, setting out your running items before bed reduces procrastination and increases your chances of going out for a run.
3. Sleep Early
To guarantee a successful morning exercise, go to bed early the night before. This ensures you get enough sleep and makes waking up early tolerable, even if you’re not a morning person.
4. Bolt Out of Bed Immediately The Alarm Goes Off
Like Robin Sharma says in The 5 am Club book, bolt out of bed as soon as the alarm goes off before your weaker self sucks you into all the reasons to stay in bed. Or you can…(next point)
5. Put Your Alarm Far From The Bed
If you seriously struggle to wake up early for a run, set your alarm and place it furthest from the bed so that when it goes off, you will be forced to stand up to silence it. Then, immediately go to the bathroom and wash your face.
After that, it will be impossible to go back to bed.
6. Sleep in Your Running Clothes
Oh yes, we will do whatever it takes to hack this invaluable habit of waking up early to exercise, even if it means sleeping in our workout gear.
As odd as this sounds, it works because what do you have to lose? I mean, you’re already in your running clothes, right? You’d better wake up and run already!
7. Make Running Enjoyable
Do you ever wonder why it’s easy for people to wake up early for a flight and difficult to wake up early for exercise? It’s the joy and excitement they get from visualizing being on air in a few hours.
So, make running exciting by running with friends, running on trails, running in clothes that make you feel good, and you will never again wake up feeling too lazy to run.
8. Run in the morning
Who would have thought that exercising in the morning is a secret to waking up early without feeling tired?
A study published by the National Library of Medicine to determine the effects of exercise timing on sleep. Participants run daily on a treadmill for 30 minutes at 7 am, 1 pm, and 7 pm.
The study found that compared to the three timings, early morning was the most beneficial to engage in exercise as it reduced blood pressure and increased deep sleep, enabling participants to wake up the following day feeling refreshed.
Conclusion
First, be intentional about waking up early for exercise, and all these points will be easy to execute.
Now I’d like to hear from you.
